COMPLIANCE

All EU countries follow the Waste Hierarchy as set out in Article 4 of the revised Waste Framework (Directive 2008/98/EC). Each EU country had to set their own guidance and regulation around this European Directive, hence we follow the UK Regulations. We follow the guidance as produced by the UK, under regulation 15(1) of the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 (DEFRA).

RESPONSIBILITY

It is the end-user’s responsibility to ensure their waste is recycled properly. The end-user is the producer of the waste.

It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to provide a recycling solution (which doesn’t have to be free) – but it is the user’s responsibility to
ensure a legitimate recycling solution is used for the waste they produce.

There are some collectors offering ‘recycling’ services for printer consumables and will provide Waste Transfer Notes to ‘prove’ that they are recycling, when they may not be applying the best environmental solutions to the waste.

A Waste Transfer Note does NOT prove that waste has been recycled. It just records where the waste has moved from and to.

There is a section on the Waste Transfer Note that you (producer) are declaring that you have applied the Waste Hierarchy and have selected the best environmental solution for your waste. Even if the service provider completes the form on your / the end-user’s behalf.

Have you done your due diligence and proper investigation to be able to commit to that declaration?

You should always ask the question of what happens to your waste? A recycler may tell you that cartridges are remanufactured for re-use; but what about the ones that can’t be re-used? Do they have the proper equipment and facility to process the waste correctly and have you seen it, in operation? Is it sent on to another location? Is it exported? Is it incinerated or sent to landfill?

That is why we issue a signed declaration on a Certificate of Recycling with our Waste Transfer Notes.

We give you our commitment and reassurance – signed.

That is also why we are happy to invite you to make an unplanned visit to see our facility in operation or request an ad-hoc video call.
